2025年8月より始まるサマーレジデンシープログラムVol.2は、長回しやミニマルな編集により、ゆったり深く映像美を味わえる「スローシネマ」に魅力されている、愛知県瀬戸市出身の映像作家、日比野曜。旧繊維工場のこぎり二内にあるmhPROJECTのアートスペースをスタジオとして使用し、写真、ドローイング、インスタレーション、パフォーマンスと多様なメディウムで作品制作に取り組みます。
一宮という街の記憶に触れ、木曽川の流れに漂い、自らの感覚、感性に抗うことなく実験的な表現を試みる「場」が顕われることでしょう。
『かつて、木曽川を越えた向こう、三重県に住む人と付き合っていた。三重の言葉が可愛らしかった。ある日、彼女を家に送った帰り、木曽川を渡って自分の家へと戻る。夜、車を飛ばして一時間と少しかかった。自分と彼女は、こんなにも距離のある場所に、20年以上も別々に暮らしていたんだなと思い、その日は眠りについた。
それから数年が経ち、今は社会人になって、もっともっと距離も背景も異なる人たちと関わる日々を過ごしている。 処理しなければならない情報も多すぎて、正直大変だ。ストレスのせいか、どこにいてもなぜか落ち着かず、気づけばドライブばかりしている。5、6時間も車を走らせていることも珍しくない。とにかく、目の前の景色を動かすことで、ようやく安らぎを得られる。ナビを消して、無心で運転して、今どこにいるのか、家からどのくらい離れているのかが分からない瞬間が、いちばん幸せだ。
今回、レジデンシーが始まるので、あまり遠くへは行けない。でも写真を撮りに行った時、木曽川の流れを見ているだけで、ドライブに近い効果が得られることに気づいた。少し、安心した。とはいえ、留まれない衝動はもう仕方がない。だから、木曽川を拠り所に、知らない土地を動きまわった先に、なにかを見つけられることを願っている。』

YOU HIBINO
Starting in August 2025, Summer Residency Program Vol.2 will feature Yo Hibino, a filmmaker from Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. He is attracted to “slow cinema,” using long takes and minimal editing to create a deep, relaxed visual experience. Hibino will use the space of mhPROJECT inside the old textile factory as his studio. There, he will create works across photography, drawing, installation, and performance. By connecting with the memories of the city and drifting along the Kiso River, he will create a space for experimental expression that flows freely with his senses and emotions.
“I used to date someone who lived across the Kiso River in Mie. I loved her cute accent. One night, after dropping her off, I drove back home—about an hour’s drive. It hit me then how we’d been living so far apart for over 20 years. That stuck with me as I fell asleep.
As an adult working with all kinds of people, life feels overwhelming sometimes. Maybe that’s why I often feel restless and end up driving for hours just to clear my head. Turning off the GPS and not knowing where I am—that’s when I feel happiest.
Now that the residency is starting, I won’t be able to go driving far like. But when I went out to take photos the other day and stood watching the flow of the Kiso River, I realized that it gave me a similar sense of calm—almost like driving. That brought me some relief. Still, the urge to keep moving. So I’ll use the Kiso River as my anchor, and with that as my base, I hope to discover something out there—somewhere beyond, as I wander through unfamiliar places.
